Voter Quick Resources

To be eligible in the state of Virginia, you must:

• Be a US citizen
• Be a resident of Virginia
• Be 18 years old by the date of the general election. You may register in advance if you are 17 but will be 18 by the general election. You can also vote in any primaries that correspond.
• Not be registered or planning to vote in another state
• Not be declared mentally incompetent by a court of law
• Have your rights restored if you have been convicted of a felony (click here)

In Virginia, you automatically lose your voting rights upon conviction of a felony. The governor can restore these rights, and depending on when your conviction was, your rights may have already been restored. 

To check the status of your voting rights or apply to have them restored, you can visit the Secretary of the Commonwealth's Restoration of Rights page (click here). 

There are a few ways to register to vote in Campbell County, Virginia:

• Online (on or before registration deadline): click here

  • You can also pick up a paper application at your local registrar, public library, DMV, registration drives, etc. For a full list, visit the VA Dept of Elections site (click here)
  • Return the application to the Campbell County Registrar

In Virginia, you can cast your vote in a variety of ways:

• In-person on Election Day: Arrive at your polling place anytime within the available hours. As long as you arrive before the polls close, you can still vote, so be sure to stay in line!
• In-person before Election Day: To vote early in-person, go to the Campbell County Registrar's Office at 41 Courthouse Lane in Rustburg, VA.
• By mail before Election Day: Apply for an absentee ballot (click here). Once you have been approved and receive your ballot, fill out the ballot AND the envelope. It is very important that you fill out the ballot return envelope completely! Return the ballot in the postage-paid envelope or at a ballot drop-off location.

If you plan to vote in-person, be sure to bring an ID with you. In Virginia, there are many acceptable forms of ID, including driver's license or voter ID card. Visit the VA Dept of Elections site to see the full list (click here).

To find your local, state, and national districts, you can:

• Visit the Citizen Portal at the VA Dept of Elections (click here). Enter your info and then scroll down to the "Districts" section. This will have all your election districts.
• Call the Campbell County Registrar (434-332-9579).

There are a variety of ways to find out who is on your ballot! You can:

• Visit the Campbell County Registrar's site to view the sample ballot (click here). Once you are on the site, find your precinct and click. It should show your sample ballot.
• Visit the candidate list page on the VA Dept of Elections site (click here). Click through the different categories at the top of the page to find the candidates for your district.
• Visit the VA Dept of Elections Ballot Lookup page (click here). Enter your address and it will show you who is on your ballot.
• Visit Ballotpedia (click here). 
  • Enter your address (email is optional) and click "View My Ballot."
  • Select the relevant election.
  • Choose either "concise" or "detailed."
  • View the candidates and/or referendums. Ballotpedia also has info on each candidate.
• Call the Campbell County Registrar (434-332-9579).
